About Us

Asset Based Lending, LLC (ABL) is a private commercial lender founded in 2010. Our mission is to help real estate investors, quickly and efficiently, finance their business activities. We provide twelve-month bridge financing to purchase and rehabilitate distressed residential and mixed-use commercial properties. We specialize in:

• REOs
• Short sales
• Multi-family buildings
• New residential construction
• Mixed use commercial properties

We are private (hard money) lenders that either work with brokers or lend directly to investors. We do not finance owner occupied properties. ABL is actively lending in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C.* either directly or in partnership with local lenders. We also selectively purchase loans from licensed brokers.

Daniel A. Leyden, Co-Managing Partner

Dan Leyden is a senior financial professional with demonstrated business expertise and innovative leadership from over 25 years of real estate related securities and loan experience. Most recently, he was the COO for Golub Capital, a private equity firm that lends money to middle market companies.

From 2003-2009, Dan was the CFO and Partner of Highland Financial Holdings Group, a $2 billion mortgage-backed and asset-backed securities hedge fund. Prior to that, Dan was an Executive VP of UBS Investment Bank, and Senior VP of Paine Webber in their Capital Markets group. Dan holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Syracuse University.

Paul A. Ullman, Co-Managing Partner

Paul Ullman has had a profitable 30-year career evaluating and managing portfolios of real estate backed loans and securities. From 1998-2009 Paul was President and Chief Investment Officer of Highland Financial Holdings Group, a New York City based hedge fund style investment management firm. Founded by Paul in 1998, Highland grew to over $2 billion in capital under management and specialized in managing mortgage-backed and asset-backed securities portfolios for a global clientele.

In 1992, Paul co-founded the asset-backed security specialty investment management group at Alliance Capital Management and, over the next five years, steered its growth to over $5 billion in assets under management. Paul began his career in the mortgage-backed security group at Salomon Brothers in 1982. Paul holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Washington University in St. Louis.

Kevin Rodman, Managing Director

Kevin Rodman brings over 30 years of mortgage experience to ABL. Kevin worked at Morgan Stanley from 1984 to 2008, holding a variety of senior roles in the Mortgage Division, ultimately with responsibility for all mortgage origination and servicing. He was CEO of Saxon Mortgage, a Morgan Stanley subsidiary, and President of Morgan Stanley Home Loans. Kevin led Morgan Stanley’s Securities Lending business, with over $200 billion in assets. He also built the Warehouse Lending business with over $15 billion in loans to over 100 mortgage companies.

Since 2008 Kevin was head of Urban Financial, a reverse mortgage originator and servicer, and a Managing Director at Maverick Funding, a conforming mortgage originator and servicer. Kevin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government from Clark University and a Master of Science in Energy Management and Policy from the University of Pennsylvania.

Kevin S. Clark, Sales

Kevin recently joined Asset Based Lending, LLC. Kevin has been described as a marketing genius, his specialty being hard money lending. He is a respected industry leader with more than 25 years of experience, and has originated billions of dollars in non-conforming real estate (Hard-Money) loans. Kevin was Marketing Director for one of the nation’s largest private commercial hard money mortgage lending firms from November 1988 until July 2003. In his role as Marketing Director he was a major force in helping the private lending firm gain national recognition as one of the country’s leading private lending source.

Non-conforming “hard-money” financing expertise, marketing savvy and powerful speaking and communication skills have won Kevin many speaking invitations from well-known industry associations nationwide. In 1995 & 2000, The National Association of Mortgage Brokers recognized Kevin S Clark for his part in developing their commercial mortgage symposium, which was created to educate members of NAMB who are interested in commercial mortgage lending. Kevin S Clark is also called upon regularly by commercial real estate and mortgage trade publications for his views on various commercial mortgage topics.
